Steamboat Springs High School recently took 4th place overall in the 2024 Colorado Science Olympiad State Tournament in Colorado Springs.
The annual tournament had 31 teams of up to 15 people completing tests and engineering challenges in 23 different areas of science ranging from anatomy to wind power.
Seven individual medals were won by SSHS students including:
- 1st Place – Chem Lab – Connor Frithsen and Aspen Bennett-Manke
- 1st Place – Flight – Haley Brabec and Duke Fitzgerald
- 1st Place – Microbe Mission – Noah Brinkman and Aspen Bennett-Manke
- 2nd Place – Dynamic Planet – Connor Frithsen and Sonny Hankes
- 2nd Place – Optics – Connor Frithsen and Bryson Lee
- 3rd Place – Forestry – Noah Brinkman and Shea Speer
- 3rd Place – Codebusters – Duke Fitzgerald, Shea Speer, and Bryson Lee
Dan Brabec runs the local program at the high school. “Students are very enthusiastic about the events and have worked hard all season.”
The middle school team also took 13 students to the competition. There were two top-three medals, and eight of the individual teams finished in the top ten. Eric Bender runs the middle school program. “The students had a great time and many of them are committed to continuing with the program in high school.”
